PET SAFETY DURING SUMMER MONTHS

We had a Conference Call with Lynn at Casselton Veterinary Service,
Inc. (http://cassvetservice.com/) and wanted to share what we discussed.

Differences between Frontline and Frontline Plus are that while Frontline works to kill fleas and ticks Frontline Plus does the same plus kill the larvae. Frontline products are reccomended. It is also reccomended to purchase them from a Veterinary clinic. It has been discovered that some name brands of flea and tick prevention may not be the real deal. Frontline is waterproof after 24 hours and should ne applied every 30 days. (See instructions on package or ask your vet.)

Ticks die down in winter months where it gets colder. Ticks not only carry Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, and Ehrlichiosis. Symptoms of Lyme disease symptoms in pets and humans is lethargy, fever, painful joints and loss of ambition. The following link is to CDC listing tick born diseases that effect humans and animals. http://www.cdc.gov/ticks/diseases/index.html

Fleas are carried by squirrels and rabbits (etc.) and actually live on the host a mere 10% of their life. The rest of the time they live in grass, weeds, etc. This results on ticks hitching a ride on your pet and then most likely your home. From wild animals that pass through your lawn, to your pet, and then to you. So, it is best to prevent as soon as you can.

Hope this helps and enjoy your summer!!!
